News broke last week about a cell phone porn scandal in Allentown, Pennsylvania. According to the Morning Call police are tasked with the impossible: stopping the spread of pornographic images of two teenage girls being passed around via cellphones. Police say at least 40 students received the images; kids say the number is much higher. One student, Jon Gabriel told police:"Most people got it and kept passing it along for fun to everyone in their phonebook."
Students said the pictures started circulating two months ago and have been passed outside the school, including Harvard and Temple universities. Students who fail to come forward and have the images erased could face charges for possessing child pornography.
Where did these kids learn this kind of behavior? By mimicking what they've seen on the Internet. The hundreds who passed on the images are also victims of the power of Internet porn, taking no thought for what the image meant. Police say the girl engaged in sex acts may not have known she was being filmed.
As long as these children work and play on an Internet awash in pornography we will continue to see stories like this.
